Victoria Falls: Africa’s roaring spectacle

In my formative years in Zimbabwe, I first encountered the breathtaking spectacle of Victoria Falls. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to revisit this natural wonder countless times, and with another excursion looming just weeks away, anticipation surges within me. The allure of these majestic falls never wanes; each visit evokes an unparalleled sense of awe and wonder. To try put it into perspective Victoria Falls is roughly twice the height of Niagara, but while it is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world, it is classified as the largest, based on its width of 1,708 metres and height of 108 metres, resulting in the world’s largest sheet of falling water.

In addition to the sheer size and due to the foresight of the local government to designate the surrounding area as a National Park you are treated to an unspoiled, pristine environment. Passing through the lush rainforest, nourished by the mist and spray of the falls, one is transported to a realm untouched by time. The surrounding area has an abundance of wildlife and elephants regularly roam through the town. Zambezi sunset cruises with wildlife on the river banks and hippos in the river are something that will live long in the memory.
