For golfers drawn to the coast, The Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head offers a summer escape with the option to play three golf courses. Harbour Town, the Pete Dye design that hosts the PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage Classic, is known for its postage stamp-size greens and tree-lined fairways. Holes 17 and 18 offer stunning views of the Calibogue Sound and the iconic red and white Harbour Town lighthouse appears behind the 18th green.

The other two courses are Heron Point, a second Dye design, and Atlantic Dunes, an easier and more forgiving option than Harbour Town. The fairways at Atlantic Dunes are wide and open, while the greens provide a challenge with their undulating designs.

Sea Pines goes all out for the Fourth of July, with a full-day celebration in Harbour Town that begins with a morning parade, continues with family-friendly activities and live entertainment, and ends with fireworks over the Harbour Town Lighthouse and Calibogue Sound.

Farther north, set on 500 acres overlooking the Potomac River, Lansdowne Resort offers a summer getaway close to the Washington, D.C. area. Located in Leesburg, Virginia, Lansdowne is roughly 35 miles northwest of the nation’s capital and is easily accessible by car or train.

Guests have the option of playing three golf courses — an 18-hole, 7,063-yard, par-72 Robert Trent Jones Jr. course; an 18-hole, 7,333-yard, par-72 Greg Norman course; or the 9-hole, Greg Norman-designed Shark Bite course.

The Shark Bite provides an option for everyone in the group with five different tee box options, ranging from approximately 2,300 yards from the back tees to 870 yards from the juniors’ tee box.

The design encourages junior and family play by providing novice golfers the chance to play on the same course as more experienced golfers.

Lansdowne’s Star-Spangled Summer Package, offered from May 25 through Sept. 7, is a full vacation experience. With rates starting at $439 per night, the package includes overnight accommodations, a daily breakfast credit, a resort credit for golf, dining or spa treatments, and seasonal welcome amenities.

Lansdowne’s special Fourth of July programming includes live music, family movie nights, lawn games, poolside entertainment and fireworks.
